     Na Dniach Lajtowych:

Rick Allen

Rick developed a love for the Scottish hills in his youth and, since his first visit to the Himalaya in 1980, he has made over 20 expeditions in Nepal, Pakistan, India, Tibet and central Asia.

Early successes in lightweight, alpine-style first ascents of the South faces of Ganesh II and Pumori were followed by a succession of attempts to apply the same approach to unclimbed routes on the world’s highest peaks. In 1993, with a Russian team he made the first ascent of the N face of Dhaulagiri but many other ‘last great problems’ on Makalu, Everest, K2, Nanga Parbat and Broad Peak remained elusive.

After leading four clients to the summit of Everest in 2000, he devoted several years to the re-discovery of the mountains of central Asia, making a number of first British ascents in the region.

Returning to the highest mountains of the world, Rick and his long time Himalayan team-mate, Sandy Allan climbed Nanga Parbat in 2009. Rick climbed GI the following year and in 2012 he and Sandy made the first ascent of the Mazeno Ridge of Nanga Parbat over 18 days, for which they were awarded a Piolet d’Or.
